A customer's one comment about my fades made me completely change my clipper technique
I had this older guy sit down about 6 months ago, and after I finished his fade he just looked in the mirror and said 'it's a little cloudy under the ears, you know?' (which I totally did not know at the time). I always thought my clipper work was pretty solid, but he was right - there was this patchy area where the blend meets the skin that I was just rushing through. So I started using a slower, more deliberate scoop motion with my Wahl Seniors instead of the quick flick I used to do, and now I actually check under the ears with a hand mirror before calling it done. Has anyone else had a client's offhand comment totally rewire how you do a specific section?

Kept the flick but changed how I finished it. Honestly, I read this barber blog where this old school dude said the flick is fine for blending but you gotta do a few things after it to lock in the transition. Like, you flick to create the guideline but then you come back with a slower, almost dragging motion to spread the blend out. That under ear thing is real though, I started using a smaller trimmer to clean up that exact spot, the ear shadow hides so much. So yeah, I didn't ditch the flick but I added that slower scoop at the end and it made a huge difference in how smooth it looks.
