I finally caved and bought that $200 matte finish spray for razors
Wasted 30 bucks on a can of cheap stuff from the grocery store and it gummed up my whole clipper blade after two uses. Anyone else find a decent alternative that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

Wait, hold up - $200 for spray? That's insane. I just about choked on my coffee reading that. I've been using the same $4 can of food-grade silicone lube from the hardware store for like a year now and it works perfect on my clippers. No joke, my buddy spent $80 on some "pro barber" brand and it left this weird film that made my blades feel sluggish after a week. The cheap grocery store stuff is garbage though, you're right about that. Silicone based is the way to go unless you're literally trying to set your money on fire.

Bought a can of that WD-40 Specialist silicone spray on a whim last month and now I use it on everything from squeaky doors to my garden shears. My neighbor swears by plain old cooking spray for his trimmers but I tried that once and it just left a sticky mess that attracted every dust bunny in the garage. The silicone stuff doesn't gum up at all and a single $8 can has lasted me through three blade cleanings so far. Have you tried just wiping the blades down with rubbing alcohol between uses instead of relying on fancy sprays?
