My $60 Roku stick died after 14 months, so I tried the $20 Onn box from Walmart and now I'm torn
Last month my Roku Streaming Stick 4K just froze on the home screen and never came back, and I was 14 months into owning it. I went to Walmart and grabbed the Onn Google TV 4K box for 20 bucks because I didn't want to drop another 60 on something that might die again. The setup took about 10 minutes and the remote has actual volume buttons which my old Roku remote never had. But now I'm noticing the Google TV interface pushes so many ads and recommendations I never asked for, and the home screen feels cluttered compared to Roku's simple grid. I mainly use Netflix, YouTube, and HBO Max, and all three work fine on the Onn box, but I miss how fast my Roku used to load apps. Has anyone else switched from Roku to a cheap Google TV box and actually stuck with it, or did you go back?
How long did you actually give the Onn box before the ads started bugging you? And does the app speed gap still feel bad now or did you get used to it?
