My brother told me to skip the first season of a show and I'm glad I did
He said the first season of 'The Expanse' was too slow, so I started with season two. I got hooked right away and went back to watch season one after I finished the rest. Has anyone else had a show where starting later was the right call?

Nah, that's a terrible way to watch anything. You missed all the world building and character introductions in The Expanse season one. Starting with season two, you had no clue why anyone was doing anything or what the stakes were. You just robbed yourself of the whole setup.

Man, that reminds me of my buddy who skipped the first Lord of the Rings movie. He was totally lost on why everyone was so obsessed with a piece of jewelry. Some setups you just can't fast-forward through.
