That one guy in the waiting room who sold me on a show I ignored for years
I was at the DMV in Austin for like 2 hours, and this older dude next to me started talking about The Americans. He told me the first episode hooks you in 10 minutes and that I was missing out. I binged 3 seasons in a week after that. Anyone else had a random stranger change your watchlist?

Oh man, I gotta push back hard on this one. Random strangers at the DMV are the last people I'm taking show advice from. You sat there for two hours with some guy who probably had a ton of time to think up a pitch, and now you're hooked on a show that could be totally average. The whole "first episode hooks you in 10 minutes" thing is just a salesman trick, like those guys who promise you'll save money on car insurance if you sign up right now. I've been burned too many times by people hyping up stuff in line, only to find out it's not my taste at all. Plus, that show's been out for years, so if it was that good, you'd have heard about it from actual friends, not a stranger selling you a story while you wait for a license renewal. Letting some random person take over three weeks of your binge time feels wild to me.

Fair point but you're kind of wrong about one thing. That show actually came out last year, not years ago. It's only got one season so far. I know because I checked it out after a similar random encounter at a coffee shop. The dude was right about the first episode being good. Sometimes strangers just have good taste, you know? Not everything is a sales pitch.
