Can we talk about the apprentice who welded his glove to a beam?

Last Thursday on a job in Gary, Indiana, we had a first year apprentice named Jake. He was practicing welds on a support beam and somehow managed to tack his leather glove right to the metal. Took three of us and a cutoff wheel to free him, and his hand was shaking the whole time. Foreman just sighed and said, 'Well, that's 45 minutes of production gone.' Has anyone else had a rookie do something this dumb on site, or is Jake setting a new record?

Wait, are you saying he tacked the glove to the beam while he was wearing it? Because that's not just a rookie mistake, that's a whole different level of bad. Usually when guys say they welded their glove, they mean the glove was sitting on the metal and got stuck, not that their hand was inside it at the time. If Jake actually had his hand in there when he hit the pedal, then yeah, he's lucky all he got was a shaky hand and not a real burn. Three guys and a cutoff wheel sounds about right for that mess though.
