Welding helmet fogged up on a test piece and cost me a cert renewal

Was at the union hall in Gary last month doing my 6G renewal, and my helmet lens fogged up right as I was starting the root pass. Had to flip it up and guess my way through the bead, ended up with slag inclusion. Anybody else deal with fogging in cold shops and found a fix that actually works?

Just spit on the lens before you start, keeps it clear longer.

Sarah I gotta say I tried the whole "spit on the lens" thing once and it was a DISASTER. I ended up with this smeary mess that looked like I smeared butter on my glasses. Maybe I need to practice more or something but my technique is clearly lacking. Its funny because I thought I was being all clever and now I just look like a idiot who cant even spit properly. Guess I will just stick to wiping mine with my shirt like the rest of the normies out here.
