Rant: My book club in Austin spent 45 minutes arguing about the ending of 'Klara and the Sun' before I realized we'd all read different editions
One person quoted a line about the rain that wasn't in my copy, and it completely changed the debate. Has your group ever had a version mix-up derail a whole discussion?

We had the same mess with "The Martian." Someone's ebook had extra technical notes that changed a key plot point. It wasted half our meeting before we figured it out. Publishers should really standardize these editions.

That "extra technical notes" thing is why our club now checks ISBNs before we meet.

Hang on though, "The Martian" ebook thing wasn't really extra technical notes. That book had a whole different chapter layout in some versions. One edition had a deleted scene from the movie tacked on as an appendix, and another one just had a different introduction by Weir. That's more of a formatting issue than a technical notes problem. Your club might need to check both the ISBN and the publication date to catch those differences.
