The Book Club That Couldn't Agree If the Narrator Was a Ghost or Just Boring

Last month in Portland, our group spent 90 minutes arguing whether a character's silence meant she was a spirit or just poorly written, and we nearly lost two members over it. Has anyone else had a debate get so heated that people threatened to quit over a plot detail?
