Am I the only one who changed their mind on using a jointer for brickwork

I always thought jointers were just for looks and not worth the extra time, but after I tried one on a retaining wall last month the difference was night and day... the lines came out so clean and even compared to my old thumb jointing method. What made you switch up your process on something you thought you had figured out?

Thumb jointing always left uneven lines for me too.

Thumb jointing works fine if you take your time and keep consistent pressure. Jointers just add another tool to clean.
