Question about using a 3/8 inch joint for interior brick veneer

I was working on a house in Boise last fall, putting up a brick veneer in a sunroom. The homeowner, an older guy who used to run his own crew, came out and watched for a bit. He pointed at my trowel and said, 'You're using a half inch joint. Try a three eighths. It'll look sharper and use less mortar.' I switched for the next section and he was totally right. The wall looked way cleaner. Anyone else find a smaller joint works better for interior stuff?

Notice the details is what separates a good job from a great one.

Seems like splitting hairs a bit... A quarter inch either way probably doesn't make a huge difference in the long run. Most people would never even notice.

Can't believe you used a half inch joint.
