I just realized I've spent less than $200 on groceries this whole month

I was adding up my receipts and it hit me that I've only spent $187 so far. I started cooking big batches of lentil soup and bean chili after work, which is way cheaper than my old takeout habit from the place on 5th Street. Has anyone else had a month where their food costs surprised them?

The place on 5th Street is where I used to get takeout too, and a single dinner from there costs almost twenty bucks. Spending less than two hundred for a whole month of food is actually amazing compared to that. Shane's comment about it being a lot for beans is missing the point completely. You're eating real meals you cooked yourself instead of overpriced restaurant food. That's a huge win, not something to question.

I mean, that's still a lot of money for just beans and lentils, idk.
