My rice cooker broke mid-dinner last night and I had to finish cooking on the stovetop
The heating element just gave out after 5 years of faithful service, so I dumped the half-cooked rice into a pot and finished it with the lid slightly open, which actually gave me the fluffiest rice I've had in months, has anyone else had better luck with stovetop rice than their machine?

Wait wait wait. You're telling me you got BETTER rice by ditching your machine mid-cook? That's wild. I've had a rice cooker for like eight years and I treat it like a sacred object, I'd never dare to interrupt it mid-cycle. But now I'm thinking about all those times my rice came out a little gummy or stuck to the bottom. You might be onto something with that lid slightly open trick, I always thought you needed the steam trapped in there. Sounds like your machine dying might have done you a FAVOR.

Right? I had almost the same thing happen when my old cooker started sticking. I got so annoyed I just pulled the plug halfway through and finished it on the stove, and holy cow it was the fluffiest rice I'd made in months. Now I'll crack the lid for the last five minutes or so, just enough to let some steam escape, and I've never had that gummy bottom problem since.
