Found out the hard way that 2-star hotels in Tokyo often have coin laundry but no dryer
I packed light for a week in Shinjuku and ended up hanging wet clothes across my room with shoelaces because I assumed they'd have dryers like in the US. Has anyone else run into this and found a workaround besides paying hotel dry cleaning prices?

Feel for you, that's a rough way to learn the laundry situation out there. Same thing happened to me and @benwilliams is right about the humidity making everything take forever. I started using those portable travel clotheslines and pointing a small fan at them overnight, worked okay in a pinch.
