Skipping taxis and trying the local subway saved my vacation budget.

I used to hail cabs without thinking, but learning the metro let me afford extra days. Why waste money when you can learn the system?

Totally agree, it's a game changer. I forced myself to learn the Tokyo metro last year and it felt impossible for the first day. By day three I was zooming everywhere for pocket change compared to cabs. That saved cash went straight to way better meals and a couple of nice souvenirs. The initial confusion is worth pushing through.

Absolutely! I had the same panic in London at first. Two days later I was hopping lines like a local and felt so proud of myself.

Notice this happens with everything from phone plans to grocery stores. We pay a lazy tax for not learning the basic system.
