Switched from a hotel to a hostel in Lisbon and saved $80 a night

I was paying $120 a night for a basic hotel room for a week. Booked a private room in a hostel instead for $40 a night, and it was just as clean and quiet. Anyone know other cities where hostels have good private room options?

Check if the private room had its own bathroom or if you shared one down the hall. That's usually the big trade-off for me. Also, did you feel like you missed out on any hotel amenities, like daily cleaning or a real front desk? I'm always curious how that part works out.

Shared a bathroom, robert64, but it was clean and never busy. Honestly didn't miss the hotel stuff at all.
