Worst travel week ever: 4 flights, 3 delays, 1 lost bag in Chicago

Last March I flew from Portland to Chicago for a connection to Newark. First delay was 2 hours because of crew issues. Missed the Newark flight, got rerouted through Detroit, then that plane had a mechanical problem. My bag ended up in Atlanta for 3 days while I wore the same jeans. Has anyone else had a connecting flight chain fall apart like that?

Delta pulled that same garbage on me last year when I was trying to get from Seattle to Boston. First leg was fine, but the second plane had a "fuel pump issue" that turned into a 4 hour delay. They rerouted me through Minneapolis, then the Minneapolis flight got canceled because the crew timed out. Ended up spending the night on an airport floor because every hotel near MSP was booked. My bag showed up at my house 2 days after I got back, which was actually faster than I expected considering they shipped it to Detroit first.

That airport floor thing hits hard. The real trick is always keeping a backup battery pack and a granola bar in your carry-on, because once you're stuck you're paying $12 for a sad airport sandwich.
