Debate: Should you pause all spending for a month or just cut the big stuff?

I was at a coffee shop in Denver last month and my card got declined for a $4 latte. That moment hit me hard because I realized I had been bleeding money on small daily purchases without tracking them. My friend says pausing every single expense for 30 days is the only way to reset, but I think that's too extreme and you'd just binge later. I trimmed my biggest bills like eating out and subscriptions instead, and I saved $320 that month. Which approach actually sticks better for people here, the total freeze or the targeted cuts?

Targeted cuts are way more realistic for most people. A total freeze feels like a punishment diet and sets you up to fail. Building better habits around your actual problem areas is what leads to long term change.

Exactly, it's about fixing the real problems, not just white-knuckling through.
