I finally saw the light on the envelope system after years of hating it

I used to think cash stuffing was outdated nonsense until I ran my debit card over by $140 last month on takeout alone. The moment I saw those empty envelopes staring back at me, I knew the digital tracking just wasn't doing it for me. Has anyone else found a hybrid approach that works better than pure cash? I'm trying half digital half cash now and curious what others do.

wait wait wait, you ran up ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS on just takeout in a single month? i'm not judging i promise but that's like almost five bucks a day on food you didn't cook yourself. i mean i get it, i've definitely had those months where i look at my credit card statement and want to cry. but okay the hybrid thing. i've been doing the half and half approach for like six months now and it actually works better for me because my brain doesn't register digital money as real. every week i pull out forty bucks cash for my stupid little spending like coffee or random snacks and everything else stays in the bank for bills. the empty envelope thing is brutal though, i had one whole week last month where i had to eat peanut butter sandwiches because i blew through my lunch envelope on day two.

Honestly @reeselewis it's not that deep, peanut butter sandwiches are fine.
