My brother told me to track every dollar for a week, and I was shocked

Honestly, he said it would be eye-opening, but I thought it was overkill. I wrote down every coffee, snack, and app purchase for seven days straight. Tbh, seeing $8 here and $12 there add up to over $200 in just random spending was crazy. That was money just vanishing from my account without me even noticing. I started putting that cash into a separate savings account instead, and it's already over $300. Has anyone else done a spending log and found a weird habit they didn't know about?

The coffee thing really got me too. I used to think tracking was some weird over-the-top thing my mom would do, but then I actually tried it for a week and saw I was blowing almost $60 on energy drinks alone. @allen.william I bet your friend's parking ticket habit is brutal, at least that stuff adds up fast too. After I saw the numbers, I switched to just buying a big box of tea bags and a reusable bottle, and now I save like $40 a month without even thinking about it. It honestly changed my whole view on small stuff I used to call "no big deal." Makes you wonder what else is flying under the radar.

Oh man, tracking my own spending just showed me how much I spend on snacks for the kids. No wonder my wallet feels empty.

Heard about a friend who did that and found out he was spending a fortune on parking tickets.
