That one guy at the co-op made me rethink my whole grocery budget

Honestly, saw this older dude at the Portland farmers market last Saturday comparing per-pound prices on a tiny calculator before buying a single apple. It took him maybe 4 minutes but he saved like $1.20 and I just stood there feeling dumb about my usual grab-and-go habit. Has anyone else had a stranger's method stick with them?

Last Tuesday at the Co-op I watched this guy weigh three different bags of bulk oats before picking the cheapest one. I used to think that kind of penny pinching was just a waste of time, but then I realized he had a whole system and I was just throwing money away without even thinking. Now I catch myself checking the price per ounce on stuff like rice and pasta, and honestly it adds up way more than I expected.
