Had a customer's custom cut order go sideways at the shop in Boise

They wanted a 3-inch thick tomahawk steak, but my band saw blade snapped halfway through the ribeye. I had to finish it by hand with a breaking knife, which took an extra 20 minutes. Do you guys keep a backup saw ready or just push through with hand tools when this happens?

Been there, felt that pain. My backup plan is usually just me swearing at the saw for a solid minute. Honestly, I just push through with the knife now because my luck is so bad that my backup blade would probably snap too. That extra 20 minutes of hand work is my personal punishment for not having better luck.

Your backup blade would snap too? That's some cursed luck.

My old shop in Portland had a similar thing happen and I used to swear by having two backup blades ready to go. But after the third time the backup snapped on a frozen brisket I changed my mind completely. Now I just keep a really sharp breaking knife handy and plan for that extra 20 minutes of hand work. It's honestly less frustrating than hoping the saw will cooperate and ending up with a broken blade anyway.
