I hit 500 buyer reviews posted and it totally surprised me
I checked my profile on a whim last Tuesday and saw I had written 503 reviews across different sites. That number caught me off guard because I never set out to be some kind of review person. It started back in 2018 when I bought a cheap toaster that died after three weeks and I got mad enough to write about it. Since then I've reviewed everything from hiking boots to a weird couch from a shop in Portland that smelled like pickles for a month. What matters to me now is seeing how my reviews actually helped strangers make choices, like one guy who said my warning about a laptop hinge saved him 200 bucks. Has anyone else here hit a review count that felt bigger than you expected?

Woah, I gotta push back on this whole mindset honestly. I don't think most of those reviews are actually helping people as much as you think. The internet is flooded with fake or exaggerated reviews, and even real ones are often just one person's bad day or weird taste. That laptop hinge warning could have just been a defective unit you got unlucky with, not some universal truth about that model. People rely way too much on random strangers' opinions and it gives them a false sense of certainty before they buy something. Its cool you hit a big number but I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that you're saving the world one review at a time.

I see what you're getting at @gonzalez.wesley but I think the laptop hinge thing was a known issue because I checked the manufacturer forums and like twenty other people had the same problem with that exact model... so it wasn't just me being unlucky. I'm not trying to save the world or anything, just figure it's nice when someone says a review kept them from wasting money on something that's clearly broken. I don't write reviews thinking I'm some kind of hero or anything, but I've had enough people thank me that I figure it's not totally useless.
