The day I stopped trusting Amazon reviews after a grill purchase

Back in June, I ordered a gas grill from Amazon based on 800 glowing reviews. It arrived with a dented lid and a missing valve, and when I checked the reviews again, half of them were from accounts that only posted once. I realized I had been duped by fake feedback, and now I only buy from stores where I can see the item in person. Ever since that $350 mistake, I cross-check every review on three different sites before I hit buy. What tips do you use to spot fake reviews?

Man that EXACT same thing happened to me with a blender last year. 400 reviews all raving about it, but when I got it the motor burned out on the third use. I started checking the reviewer history too - if an account has reviewed a toaster, a phone case, and a grill all in one week, that's a GIANT red flag. Now I only trust reviews that mention specific downsides or show actual photos of the product in use, not just the stock images.

That many reviews for a toaster AND a grill in one week? That's wild.

Ngl, charles508 nailed it. I fell for that exact same trick last summer with a portable blender. Looked legit-tons of glowing reviews, all 5 stars. Then the blade cracked on day two and the motor smelled like burning wires. I started digging into the reviewers and found accounts that had reviewed a tent, a dog leash, and a HDMI cable all in two days. It's so obvious once you start paying attention.
