I was about to buy a sectional from a local furniture store in Cleveland last month, but one 2-star review mentioned the cushions flattening after 8 weeks. I almost ignored it because the listing had 40 glowing 5-star ratings. Instead I visited the store and sat on the floor model for 10 minutes, which felt fine. But that review stuck with me, so I passed and got a different couch online with similar specs. Two months later, a friend bought the same one and the cushions look like pancakes. Anyone else rely on that one negative review over all the positives?

The negative reviews are the ones I read first now, every single time. That tip about sitting on the floor model for 10 minutes is solid, but it only tells you how it feels new, not how it holds up. I learned that the hard way with a recliner that gave out in three months. What I do now is search the brand name plus "flatten" or "sag" and see what pops up, way more useful than the star rating. Also, check the return policy before you buy anything, some stores will charge you a restocking fee just for breathing on the couch. Good call trusting your gut on that one, $400 is a lot to lose over a pillow top that turns into a pancake.
