Glue up went sideways, now I'm rethinking my whole approach

I did a big cabinet door glue up last Friday using polyurethane glue instead of my usual PVA, and the foam expanded way more than I expected. It pushed the panels out of square by almost 3/16 inch, and I had to take the whole thing apart after 40 minutes of wrestling with clamps. Now I wonder if the extra moisture in my shop this week made it worse, or if poly is just too unpredictable for face frames. Anyone else had a glue fail that made them switch back to the old standby, or did you learn to work with it?
