Lost a whole week of work after a router bit shattered in my hand last Tuesday in Denver

I was just trimming some maple for a custom kitchen job and that cheap carbide bit exploded sending shrapnel into my palm, now I'm down for 7 days and can't even grip a chisel, has anyone else had a bad experience with those bargain bit sets from Harbor Freight?

Man, that sounds brutal. Those cheap bits are a gamble for sure. Harbor Freight stuff is fine for softwood or basic stuff, but maple is tough and any tiny flaw in the metal can cause a shatter situation. Your experience is exactly why I only buy name brand carbide now, even if it hurts the wallet. Hope your hand heals up quick, that kind of injury is no joke and can mess with your grip for months.

Disagree completely, those cheap bits are fine for most stuff if you just take it slow and don't force them.
