DAE realize they spent years over-tightening coax connectors and wondering why signal kept dropping out?

After a guy from the local shop watched me crank one on with pliers and laughed, he showed me fingertight plus a quarter turn, been smooth ever since - has anyone else had a moment where you found out a basic thing you'd been doing wrong for like a decade?

Wait, so you're telling me I've been cranking these things like I'm tightening lug nuts for no reason? My buddy Mike used to work at a cable company and he told me the same thing, said he watched a new guy snap a connector clean off with a wrench his first week.
