Finally solved my tent rainfly problem after 3 soggy trips

I kept waking up with water pooling inside my tent, and it drove me crazy. Turns out I was staking the rainfly too close to the tent body, so condensation had nowhere to escape. It took me 3 separate camping trips over 6 months to figure out the fix - I had to leave a 4 inch gap on each side. Now I also angle the stakes at 45 degrees and it's been bone dry through two heavy rain nights in Shenandoah. Has anyone else dealt with rainfly setup issues or found a better technique?

Oh man, the 45 degree stake angle thing is huge, most folks don't realize how much it changes the tension on the fly. I'd add that using a taut line hitch on the guylines lets you adjust things mid trip if the weather shifts or the ground gets soft. That little extra flexibility saved me on a trip in the Whites where it went from dead calm to sideways rain in like an hour.

Yeah the taut line hitch is legit, learned that one the hard way myself.
