Got roasted on my tent stakes choice and never looked back after a trip to Shenandoah

Oh man, I'm gonna push back hard on this one! I've been using the same cheap aluminum stakes for like six years and they've never let me down once across a dozen states. Honestly, spending big money on fancy stakes feels like a total waste when you can get a solid set for under ten bucks that does exactly the same job. Unless you're camping on straight marble or in a hurricane, those basic stakes will hold just fine and if you lose one you're out like fifty cents instead of five dollars. People get way too caught up in gear snobbery when the real secret is just knowing how to stake your tent right in the first place!

Tyler_white42 I gotta respectfully disagree here. A bad storm in Shenandoah taught me the hard way that cheap aluminum stakes bend like wet noodles the second you hit rocky ground. I've snapped three of them in a single night trying to get them into packed soil, and that's just not worth the headache when you're already tired. A buck fifty per stake isn't nothing, but neither is waking up at 3am to re-pitch your tent because a gust popped one loose. Knowing how to stake matters, sure, but having gear that actually works with you instead of against you matters too.
