I finally swapped my heavy canvas tent for a silnylon one

Used to haul my old 12lb canvas tent up to Rainier every summer and my back was killing me. Switched to a silnylon one after 3 trips last year and it weighs like 4lbs now. Setup is way faster too since it packs down smaller and I don't have to fight with wet canvas. Anyone else made the jump to lighter material and noticed a big difference in packing?

Did your shoulders feel better after switching, or did the lighter weight just make you push harder and go further? I actually see it different, I kept my canvas tent because I hate the way silnylon flops around in the wind at high camps. Yeah it's heavy, but I know it's gonna stay put in a storm, and it doesn't drip condensation on my face at 4am like those thin ones do. I'll take the sore back over a bad night's sleep any day. But I get it, if you're doing miles every weekend, that weight adds up fast.

12lbs? I carried a 8lb canvas tent for one season and thought that was bad enough. You mustve been building up some SERIOUS leg muscle hauling that brick around.
