Ranger at Glacier National Park changed my mind about bear spray
I always thought bear spray was a gimmick and just carried a bell on my pack. This ranger at the Apgar visitor center asked me if I'd ever actually watched a grizzly charge. She pulled up a video on her phone of a test spray stopping a bear at 30 feet. That visual convinced me to buy a can right there for $45. Has anyone else had a park employee change their gear setup?

Honestly, that's just a sales pitch dressed up as a safety lesson.

Totally agree. "Sales pitch dressed up as a safety lesson" is exactly what I've been saying for years. I fell for one of those online courses that promised to teach me the basics of safe firearm handling. All it ended up being was a 45 minute video trying to push their brand of gun lock and their overpriced safe. Not a single tip about storage or handling that wasn't already common sense you'd get for free on YouTube. It felt like I wasted my money just to sit through an ad.
