My neighbour in Halifax said my draft sealing looked sloppy from his deck
He pointed out a gap I missed above my patio door, which explained the cold spot in my kitchen. I bought a $15 tube of exterior sealant and redid the whole frame, making sure to smooth the bead properly. Has anyone found a specific brand that holds up better against our east coast winters?

Honestly, I swear by Sika Flex. That stuff is my go to. I used some cheap stuff from a hardware store on my shed a few years back and it cracked and peeled after one winter. Switched to Sika and it's still flexible and stuck on tight three seasons later. It handles the freeze and thaw cycles way better in my experience. Just make sure the surface is bone dry and clean before you apply it.

Yeah but that stuff is crazy expensive for what it is. I've had the cheap tubes work just fine if you prep the surface right.

Tyler mentioning the freeze and thaw cycles made me think of my old car. The windshield sealant failed every winter until I finally listened to a tip from calebb57 about warming the tube first. I used a cheap brand but let it sit in a bucket of warm water for ten minutes, and that application finally stuck. It's all about the prep and the temperature.
