Why does nobody talk about the city permit process for a basement suite?
Everyone says just do it, but getting the permit for my Edmonton basement took 14 months. Had to change the window sizes three times. Inspector wanted a different fire separation plan than the plans showed. Cost me an extra $8k in delays. Has anyone else had the city move the goalposts like this?

What specific rule change did they hit you with, @allen.william? Was it a new permit fee, or did they move the goalposts on zoning after you started building?
