Rant: Cutting back on sleep to handle work load caused a major presentation flub

I always thought staying up late was necessary to keep up with my job demands. During a recent important meeting, my mind went blank because I was exhausted from lack of rest. It confused the clients and made me look unprepared. Now I stick to a regular sleep schedule to keep my mind clear for work tasks.

That "mind went blank" part is so real. My friend Mark used to brag about his 3-hour nights before big meetings. Last month he was showing a new feature to their biggest client, and he just froze for a full minute, couldn't remember the basic login flow he built himself. The room got so awkward, and the client actually asked if he was feeling okay. He said it was pure fog from no sleep. Now he guards his 7 hours like it's his actual job.

Honestly that crunch time sleep deprivation gets a bad rap. Plenty of big projects in my old gaming job only got finished because the whole team pulled multiple all-nighters right before deadlines. The focus from that pressure cooker environment can actually force a breakthrough you wouldn't get well-rested. Sometimes you just need to push through and the work gets done.

Yikes, my exhausted coworker once tried to make coffee but totally spaced and just ran hot water.
