Just realized my framing square was off after a chat with a retired guy at the lumberyard

He saw me checking a corner and said, 'Son, if you trust that more than a 3-4-5, you're building a headache.' I've checked every square with that method since. Anyone have a favorite brand that holds its true angle for more than a couple seasons?

Got a Starrett that's still dead on after ten years.

That old timer gave you the only advice that matters. I've got a drawer full of squares that swore they were true, from cheap store brands to fancy ones. They all lie eventually. My favorite is the one I check with a 3-4-5 on a fresh piece of plywood before it touches any real work. The brand on the handle is just decoration at this point.

How often do you re-check that plywood reference square? Does it drift over time, or is it just a one-time setup for each new batch of work?
