Carpet in a 100 year old house nearly ruined my cutter blade
Last Wednesday I had a job in an old Victorian over on Maple Street. The owner said the subfloor was fine but I found 3 layers of old linoleum and particle board underneath. Snapped my hook blade clean off on a hidden nail around 2 PM. Has anyone else dealt with surprise subfloor junk like that?

we had a house in the old part of town where the owner swore up and down it was just hardwood under the carpet. pulled up a corner and found like an inch of this black mastic stuff that smelled like a chemical plant exploded. spent the whole afternoon scraping it off with a heat gun and a putty knife cause the vacuum wouldnt even touch it. i still find little bits of that black goo on my tools sometimes. makes me wonder what people were thinking back then just slapping down any random material they found. at least you got a clean break off with the blade, could have been worse like a finger.
