Went to an old job site last week and saw my carpet from 12 years ago still holding up

I was back in a church basement I did back in 2012, helping a buddy move a piano. The commercial grade carpet I laid down was still there, no ripples or loose seams, just a bit faded near the doors. The caretaker said they've only vacuumed and spot cleaned it once a year. Made me think about how we rushed through jobs back then versus now, where every seam gets extra care. Has anyone else stumbled on an old install and felt surprised by how it aged?

just a bit faded near the doors" - man that is wild. I find it hard to believe a carpet would still look decent after 12 years with only spot cleaning once a year. My own bedroom carpet looks trashed after 3 years and I vacuum it every week. Did you use one of those heavy duty commercial carpets with the really tight loops? Those seem to hold up way better than the fluffy residential stuff.

12 years is totally believable if you buy the right stuff... I've pulled up 15 year old commercial carpet at work that still looked almost new in the low traffic spots. @murray.cole probably just got lucky with a good quality carpet with a dense pile and decent stain treatment.
