I bought a fancy new mandoline slicer for $80 and it was a total mistake

The guard was so poorly designed I nicked my thumb within five minutes. Now it just sits in a drawer, a pricey reminder that flashy tools aren't always better. Anyone have a go-to brand for something simple and safe?

Pricey reminder" seems a bit dramatic for a kitchen tool.

Have you ever bought a really expensive garlic press? It's not just a tool, it's a daily guilt trip sitting in your drawer. Every time I use mine I remember I could have bought three nice bottles of wine instead. Some purchases just haunt you, lol.
