My 10 year old Thermomix died mid-service last Thursday

Had to finish prepping 40 covers of sauce with a hand blender and a whisk, has anyone else had a workhorse appliance just quit on them at the worst possible moment?

Oh man, that timing is brutal. My KitchenAid mixer seized up right in the middle of whipping egg whites for a big batch of macarons I was making for a friend's wedding. I just grabbed a big whisk and some elbow grease and finished them by hand. Totally felt like I was in some old timey kitchen. It ended up taking forever but the macarons actually turned out okay in the end so maybe it was a sign to slow down haha. Hope your sauce turned out alright with the hand blender!

Oh totally, having to whisk egg whites by hand for a whole batch of macarons is definitely brutal and I get that it's a huge pain. But I always wonder about stuff like this, like is it really that serious? You said they came out okay, so maybe the mixer dying was actually doing you a favor by keeping you from overmixing or something. I see people freak out over kitchen breakdowns like it's a full on crisis, but really you just need more time and a bit more muscle. Hand mixing macarons is annoying but it's not like your whole day was ruined. People act like their mixer dying is a personal tragedy but it's really just an inconvenience.
