Why I think electric vehicles are not the silver bullet people claim

I compared my family's 2015 Honda Civic to a 2023 Nissan Leaf over 6 months of daily driving. The Leaf only went about 150 miles on a full charge in winter here in Minnesota, which meant I couldn't take it to visit my sister in Duluth without stopping to charge for 45 minutes. Meanwhile, the Civic costs me $35 to fill up and gets me 400 miles easy. I get that EVs have their place, but for people like me who live in cold climates and drive longer distances, they just don't work yet. Has anyone else tried both and found the gas car more practical for their actual life?

Yeah that winter range drop is brutal, had the same issue with my old Spark EV up here.

Laughing but also crying with you @fionaa35. My old Leaf would drop from 150km to like 90km in January, made me feel like I was driving a golf cart with a dying battery. Actually had to plug in the block heater just to get the battery warm enough to take a charge some mornings.
