Dropped my grinder and it changed how I dial in
I was rushing to get shots pulled before work last Tuesday in my kitchen in Portland and knocked my Baratza Encore off the counter. Burrs flew everywhere and I spent 20 minutes reassembling it, but when I put it back together I accidentally set the grind way finer than I ever tried. Pulled a shot that tasted like actual berries and chocolate instead of the bitter mess I was used to. Now I wonder how many good beans I wasted being too scared to go that fine. Has anyone else had an accident that accidentally taught them something?

Doubt it's that deep, just sounds like you finally found the right setting.

...and then the next morning I grabbed my pour-over cone instead of the espresso machine because I wasn't fully awake. Ended up dumping the fine ground coffee into the filter and pouring water over it like a complete idiot. But you know what? That cup was actually smooth and sweet, not bitter at all. I guess I'd been grinding way too coarse for pour-over this whole time too. So yeah, accidents can be weird teachers. Your grinder drop might have just saved you from years of mediocre shots.
