My new grinder jammed for a solid hour over a single coffee bean

I got a new burr grinder last week and was excited to dial it in. I poured in some Ethiopian beans and it made a horrible noise, then stopped completely. I spent 45 minutes taking it apart, checking the manual, and even called the store, only to find one single, rock-hard pebble of a bean wedged in the top burr. The whole thing took over an hour from start to finish for a problem that should have taken two seconds. Has anyone else had a grinder freak out over a weird bean?

Ever try shaking the grinder upside down before you start it? I had a grinder that would choke on the first bean all the time. Now I give the whole thing a good tap and a shake to settle the beans down into the burrs. It sounds dumb but it keeps a single rogue bean from jamming up the whole works.

Was that bean made of concrete or something?
