My 10 year old niece just schooled me on comic book gatekeeping

We were at a family thing in Chicago last weekend and she saw my Flash shirt. She asked if I liked Wally West or Barry Allen more. I gave my usual 'Barry is the real Flash' rant. She looked at me and said, 'But Wally was Flash for like 20 years in the comics, you just like the TV show.' She's right, I've only read a handful of comics from the 90s. It hit different coming from a kid who actually reads the books. She basically called me a fake fan without saying it. Made me realize I talk more about being a fan than actually being one. Anyone else ever get their comic book knowledge checked by an unexpected person?

Wait, she's only ten and she knows the Flash legacy timeline that well? That's honestly kind of amazing for her age.

Getting owned by a ten-year-old is a new low. Time to hit the comic shop before the next family dinner.

Grabbed some new Spider-Man issues. Kids can't argue with fresh canon.
