Pro tip: The '90s X-Men cartoon is not a good place to start with the comics.

I keep seeing people at my local shop in Austin tell new readers to watch the cartoon first, but it skips so much and gets a bunch of character origins wrong, like Rogue's. I tried this with a friend last year and they were totally confused when we picked up 'Uncanny X-Men' #171. Why do we keep pushing a 30-year-old cartoon as the main entry point?

Wait, didn't the cartoon actually get Rogue's origin right though? It was the movies that changed it. The cartoon is still a pretty fun intro for the vibe.
