Bought a $200 USB-C hub on a whim - biggest mistake of the month

Picked up one of those Anker 11-in-1 hubs for my laptop and it runs so hot it actually shut down my whole setup after 20 minutes of file transfers. Has anyone else had issues with these multiport hubs throttling under heavy use?

it runs so hot" is an understatement honestly. I noticed this pattern where companies keep adding more ports to hubs but they don't bother making the power delivery or heat sinks any better. It's like they think we'll just magically make our devices not suck power at the same time (news flash, we can't). Same thing happened to me with a cheaper hub, it got so hot I could fry an egg on it, which is not a feature I ever wanted. This is really just part of a bigger problem where everything is designed to look sleek but not actually work hard for more than ten minutes. Manufacturers just assume we're doing light stuff like charging a mouse, not actual file transfers that push the chip. Feels like they expect us to treat our "pro" gear like it's a toy sometimes.

The heat thing is no joke. @milap35 hit it right about the form over function problem. These things look like sleek little bricks but the engineering can't keep up when you actually push them. The manufacturers probably test with one device plugged in and nobody transferring 4K video files. They know most people will just return them rather than complain online so they keep making the same garbage. It makes me wonder if any of these brands actually stress test their hubs with three or four ports being used at the same time. Wouldn't bet on it given how many people have the same issue.
