Warning: I was overworking the surface for years and didn't know it

I was finishing a big garage slab in Phoenix last week, and the homeowner's kid asked why I kept going over it when it looked smooth. I mean, I always did a few extra passes with the magnesium float, thinking it made it tighter. But when I stopped and really looked, I saw I was just pulling up a thin layer of cream and making it dusty. That one question made me realize I was adding time and creating a weaker skin. Has anyone else cut back on their floating passes and seen a better finish?

Reminds me of when I kept over-sanding a door and just made it fuzzy, lol.

Yeah, less is more with the float for sure.
