TIL that specific feedback on my flooring estimate format actually saved me a job
I used to just scribble square footage and a price on a scrap of paper for customers. Then this one guy in Louisville looked at my estimate and said, 'This looks like a to-do list from a 90s garage sale.' He walked me through how he wanted it broken down by material cost, labor per room, and waste percentage. I changed my whole quoting system after that and landed his $4,200 job plus two referrals. Has anyone else here had a customer totally reshape how you present your work?

My buddy Dave does drywall and had a homeowner red-pen his whole quote, now he uses color-coded spreadsheets with photos of his past corners and edges. The guy ended up paying him double for the extra detail work.

ha! sounds like Dave learned the hard way that some people just wanna feel like they're getting something extra for their money. @brookefox gotta love homeowners who think red pen is a payment method instead of a feedback tool. funny how the guy who nitpicked ended up paying double - guess those corner photos really did the trick. reminds me of the old saying about people who complain about prices then demand premium service. Dave should send that guy a fruit basket for teaching him such a valuable lesson in covering his bases.
