Shoutout to the guy who told me to try feather boards on my table saw cuts

I wasted 2 hours fighting kickback on a simple rip cut yesterday before I finally set up a feather board and the board slid through smooth as butter, has anyone else had a similar moment where one little jig changed everything?

Did that feather board work good for keeping your fingers safe from the blade too?

My uncle actually built his own feather board from a scrap piece of oak back in '98. Thing was ugly as sin but man it held my stock tight against the fence, never had a kickback issue with it. Kinda scary though 'cause I remember one time the grain split right down the middle on a really knotty piece of walnut. Sent a chunk flying past my ear. Still have that feather board actually, sits in a bucket with a bunch of other random jigs I keep meaning to organize but never do.
