Shoutout to the old guy at the truck stop in Bakersfield

I was fighting a stubborn injector on a 6.7 Powerstroke and my usual soaking method with PB Blaster wasn't doing anything. He saw me struggling and told me to try a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF, let it sit for an hour. It worked better than any commercial penetrant I've ever bought. Has anyone else used that mix on seized bolts up north where the rust is worse?

Heard that mix works great but doesn't acetone eat rubber seals?

Nah, that's a common worry but it's overblown. We're talking about a tiny amount of acetone mixed in a full tank of gas. Modern fuel system seals are made to handle way worse, like the ethanol in every pump. I've run that mix in my truck for two years with zero issues. If it ate seals, you'd see way more people online with broken fuel lines.

Remember my uncle swore by acetone in his old lawnmower gas, said it ran smoother. Totally different from a modern fuel system though, those old machines were simple. Makes me wonder if half these tips are just passed down from when engines were built like tractors. I get the worry about seals, but you're right, they design for harsh stuff now. Still, I'd check the manual before trying anything weird in my own car.
